The Clerkenwell & Islington Guides’ Association, the Mayor of Islington’s official tour guides, are delighted to present their Mayor’s Charity Walk 2014.  This guided walk, entitled ‘Islington: town and country; rich and poor’ will take place on Saturday 26th April starting at 11am outside Islington Town Hall.  The walk will last between 90 minutes and two hours and end at Freightliners Farm, where refreshments will be available.

The Mayor of Islington, Councillor Barry Edwards, supports Freightliners Farm, a city farm which gives kids a look at a different world, as one of his two nominated charities; the other is Islington Giving, a campaign which supports projects that invest in young people, tackle poverty and confront isolation.

The theme of our walking tour for the Mayor ties in with the spirit of his nominated charities and will cover Islington’s development from rural ‘idyll’ to urban ‘chic’, a process which should not be over-simplified; on this walk these ideas will be put into perspective and contrasts explored, revealing the harsher aspects of the area’s transformation as well as celebrating what it was and is now…

All proceeds of the walk will go Freightliners Farm and to Islington Giving.  Donations (£5 suggested per person, more welcome!) will be collected on the day.  No booking required, just turn up – we look forward to welcoming you on the walk!  Please check with Transport for London’s Journey Planner for travel details on the day.
